[h=3]The Chrome Web Store

Thanks to the many, many options in the Chrome Web Store, Chrome

is perhaps the most customizable browser available today. The Web Store

allows you to download different web apps, extensions, and themes, which

can make Chrome even more powerful and personal. Learning more about the

Chrome Web Store will make Chrome easier and more useful for you

[h=3]Apps

Chrome was designed with web applications in mind, so

it might not be too surprising to learn that Chrome can run

thousands of different apps. Web apps work just like software that

you might install on your computer, but they are run through your

browser
instead of your operating system. Apps range from simple tools, like a

calculator or notepad, to the complex, like a photo editor or even a game

[h=4]To Install an App:

Navigate to https://chrome.google.com/webstore or click Chrome Web Store on the New Tab page.

Extensions

Unlike apps, extensions are used to add additional features to the browser. Extensions can

block advertisements, save a website to a service like Evernote, and share a page with

your social network, all without needing to open a new tab. There's almost no limit to

what extensions can do, so take some time to become familiar with the different extensions available

To Install an Extension:

Navigate to the Chrome Web Store.

Select Extensions from the left-navigation menu of the Chrome Web Store.

[h=3]Themes
If you'd like to change the way Chrome looks and feels, you can add one of the thousands of

custom themes from the Web Store. Some themes simply change the color of the Chrome window, while

others add detailed background pictures to the whole browser. Adding a theme is as simple

as installing an app or extension, so there's no harm in trying one out

[h=4]To Install a Theme:

Navigate to the Chrome Web Store.

Select Themes from the left-navigation menu of the Chrome Web Store.

[h=4]Website Security Indicators

Whenever you navigate to a website, Chrome will display a security indicator to the left of the web address in the Omnibox.

priv_secure_viewicon.png

A webpage security indicator

Understanding these indicators can help you stay safe when entering personal information on the web. Review

the meaning of the most common Security indicators below

browse_omni_globe2.png
The non-SSL indicator will appear for most websites, which means that the site is not using a

secure connection. This is not important for many websites, like a news source

or weather forecast, but you should avoid entering personal information on these pages

priv_secure_httpsA.png
The HTTPS indicator will appear if the site is using a secure connection. Always check for

this icon when entering sensitive information on the web, like your credit card number or birth date. A

secure connection makes it nearly impossible for someone to access your information

priv_secure_nonhttpsA.png
The insecure HTTPS indicator will appear if Chrome detects a problem with a site's secure connection. Never

enter personal or sensitive information on an insecure site
