Formatting Cells




To Applying Number Formatting:


Select the cell or cells you wish to modify. In our example, we

will change the date formatting of cell A2
Locate and select the Number Formatting button

A drop-down menu will appear with various number formatting options.


Select the desired formatting. In our example, we

will select a different type of date formatting

The cell will change to the new formatting style.

Normal is the default setting for every cell in a spreadsheet
.
Whenver you enter information into a cell, Google Spreadsheets will

choose a formatting style based on the content
.
By default, text wil be left-aligned and numbers will be right-aligned.

Select 2 Decimals to round a decimal to the nearest hundredth (18.16).


Select Rounded to round a decimal to the nearest whole number (18).

These two options are used to simplify decimals in our example below.

Click Custom Decimals... to choose specific rounding for decimals.

Select Financial to format numbers for accounting purposes.


Select this option when working with a large amount of financial information.

Select Scientific to format numbers in scientific notation. This is especially

helpful when working with very large numbers. In our example, the large numbers

followed by many zeros are changed to the shorter, scientific format: 1.40E+22, 1.90E+23, and so on

By default, Google Spreadsheets will apply scientific formatting if a number is too large to display in a cell.

Select Currency to add proper puncuation and currency symbols, like the dollar sign ($), to numerical values.

Select Percent to add the Percent sign (%) to numerical values.


Percentages can be formatted in two different ways: as Percent rounded (15%) and as exact percet (15.00%).


In our example below, we have forrmatted the same percentages using these options

A Google Spreadsheet can contain one or more sheets. When working with a large amount

of information, you can create multiple sheets to help organize

your spreadsheet and make it easier to find information


In this lesson, you'll learn how to create, rename, move, delete, and duplicate sheets.

[h=3]Using Multiple Sheets
When you create a new Google Spreadsheet, it has one sheet which is named

Sheet1
by default. In the sheets toolbar located at the bottom of

the window, you will see a tab for each sheet that you have. To organize

your spreadsheet and make it easier to navigate, you can

create, rename, delete, move, and duplicate sheets

[h=4]To Create a New Sheet
In our example, the sheets of our service log are organized by

month. We will create a new sheet in the log so data can be entered in the new month


Click the Add Sheet command

Alternatively, you can create an additional sheet by clicking Insert and selecting New sheet from the drop-down menu.

Click the tab of the sheet you wish to rename. Select Rename... from the menu that appears.

In the dialog box that appears, type the desired name for the sheet. Then, click OK.

[h=4]To Switch to a Different Sheet:

Click the desired sheet tab in the sheets toolbar.

If you wish to limit collaborators from editing specific sheets of your spreadsheet, you can

protect those sheets by clicking on the desired sheet tab and selecting Protect sheet... from the menu that appears

[h=4]To Move a Sheet:
Click, hold and drag the tab of the sheet you wish to move. As you move

the tab, a vertical blue bar

[h=4]To Duplicate a Sheet:

Click the tab of the sheet that you wish to duplicate. Then select Duplicate from the menu that appears.

A duplicate of the sheet will appear in the sheets toolbar. It will be named as a

copy of the original sheet, such as "Copy of April". If you desire, you can rename the sheet

Click the tab of the sheet you wish to delete. Select Delete from the menu that appears.
